Professional Profile

Mr. Nersesian has thirty-eight years of varied experience in the planning, design, construction, and management of water resources development studies and projects in the New England States, New York, and New Jersey with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  He has held top positions such as Chief, Civil Resources Branch; Chief, Coastal Engineering; Chief, Coastal Engineering Branch; Chief, New Jersey Civil Planning Group; Chief, Beach Erosion and Hurricane Section; Assistant to Chief, Beach Erosion Hurricane Section; and Project Engineer, River and Harbor Section.  In addition to his work in the public sector, he has also provided consulting services on various coastal engineering matters in the private sector involved with studies, investigations, and coastal project construction.

A Professional Engineer, Mr. Nersesian lectures at Long Island University School of Planning, and at Columbia University School of Journalism.  He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Society of American Military Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, The American Shore and Beach Preservation Association, and the National Defense Industrial Association.   Mr. Nersesian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

  • Supervised engineering staff and performed and directed design and developmental work.
     
  • Participated with staff of the U.S. Army Coastal Engineering Research Center in the acquisition of field data for hydraulic model studies and evaluation of results.
     
  • Prepared and conducted coastal, estuarine, and flood control studies and reports leading to Congressional authorization of storm protection and navigation improvement projects.  Prepared detailed designs of coastal and navigation projects for General Design Memoranda and for plans and specifications for construction.  Provided engineering reviews and consultative services during project construction.  Performed monitoring and evaluation studies of completed projects.  Projects included:
