Expertise: Food Industry Regulatory Compliance

Professional Profile

Mr. Meer has over 30 years of experience in the food industry including nine years as an independent consultant. He has in-plant expertise in reducing chemical and biological waste products, and minimizing their cost of removal. He has worked on projects for flavoring materials, beverage processing, ingredient manufacturing, and nutritional supplements and pharmaceutical fields. Mr. Meer teamed with Albert Machlin in presenting waste minimization techniques to the food industry at Rutgers University’s Center for Advanced Food Technology. Furthermore, the two experts traveled to Egypt to demonstrate their food industry energy and water conservation skills.

Mr. Meer became an independent consultant in 1993 after a 25-year career with Meer Corporation including the last seven serving as its President. Meer Corporation was a $25 million company specializing in botanical solvent extraction concentrates, gums and food stabilizers, and other natural products for the nutraceutical, food, flavor and chemical industries. Earlier in his career, the consultant was a research engineer with the Dupont Company in their Engineering and Organic Chemicals Departments. During his varied career, Mr. Meer was able to visit many firms, and decided to share his knowledge with medium sized firms that can employ his technology, customer regulatory experience and business judgment to their activities.

A chemical engineer by training, Mr. Meer is a graduate of Lafayette College and holds a Masters Degree from Cornell University in this field. A Masters of Business Administration from the University of Delaware supplements his formal education. He has taken many short courses and seminars in nutraceuticals to enhance his current knowledge. In addition, he has presented seminars on diverse subjects as process development, spice oleoresins, New Jersey regulatory environment, wastewater treatment, energy conservation, solar energy, trade organization management and Good Manufacturing Practices.

Professional affiliations of the Principal Consultant include membership in the Drug, Chemical and Allied Trades Association (DCAT), Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), and Rutgers University’s Center for Advanced Food Technology (CAFT). Currently, Mr. Meer is Director of the Consultants Association of the Natural Products Industry (CANI), and Past-President of the National Association of Flavors and Food-Ingredient Systems (NAFFS).
